2021: The densification of cultures

THE PROJECT 2021, WHICH HAS BEEN ENTIRELY THOUGHT OUT BY THE GARDENERS WITH THE SUPPORT OF TWO SCIENTISTS OF THE MNHN, IS ABOUT THE DENSIFICATION OF CULTURES

In 2021, the gardener’s interest for the diversification of cultures has been fueled by the fact that common gardens are small and often urban spaces.

The research question underlying the project is to know if the vegetable production between two mixed cultures of varying densities changes.

2020: The OYAS

EMERGENT OUT OF THE PROJECT JOS, END OF 2019, THE ACTION GROUP OF PARTICIPATIVE RESEARCH OF CELL, AIMED TO LEAD RESEARCH PROJECTS WITH THE GARDENERS ON COMMUNAL ISSUES

In 2020, the gardeners worked on a light experimentation in terms of layout and sustainability.

The frequency of heatwaves over the last years, the waterborne stress of the plants and the consequent gardeners’ watering stress led the participants to test an irrigation system called OYAS.

You can read the protocol of the project HERE.

You can read the results of the sensorial analysis of the lettuce HERE.

The results will be published soon.

CELL AND THE MUSEUM OF NATURAL SCIENCES COLLABORATED ON A FIRST PROJECT OF PARTICIPATIVE RESEARCH: JOS

JOS: CITIZEN RESEARCH IN COLLECTIVE GARDENS (Jardins collectifs font science citoyenne)

The pilot project of participative research, type ‘citizen sciences’, followed 14 communal or mixed gardens throughout Luxembourg.

The types of the target gardens are:
-gardens which are entirely collectively managed
-mixed gardens (partially made up of individual plots and communal land)

The entire protocol can be downloaded HERE.

The sociological query can be downloaded HERE.

The FNR report can be downloaded HERE.

The report on the sensorial analysis ‘napping’ (7 varieties of dwarf beans) can be downloaded HERE.

The final thesis of a student who followed the project can be downloaded HERE.
