Breedewee Community Garden

The "Escher Quartiersgaart" is a collective garden initiated by the non-profit organisation Transition Minett on land made available by and with the financial support of the town of Esch.

The garden is open to all provided that the basic principles of shared gardens are applied: conviviality, courtesy, solidarity, mutual aid, sharing, respect for others and the environment.

The plot is 300m2 and the garden is organised with plots in the ground, containers, a greenhouse, berry bushes, an aromatic spiral and flowerbeds. We have a shed to store tools which are shared.

The principles of the garden are :

  • Intergenerational and intercultural exchange
  • Sharing knowledge
  • Produce naturally
  • Consuming locally

It is necessary to come regularly to the gardening sessions which take place on Saturday mornings to be able to harvest. The harvests are shared.

The crops are decided collectively and a crop rotation is carried out. Compost is shared. In addition to the gardening sessions, meals are regularly organised between members in the garden and we also make our own bins, insect shelters and nesting boxes during the winter in the Facilitec workshop.

Participation in the garden is free and there is no waiting list. We are currently a group of 7-8 people.
